York - October 2004

Here are the first pictures I took when I arrived in York to start my PhD. The city is very famous for its being the second city in the UK for historical importance, starting from the Viking period (it was originally named Jorvik). The center is very well preserved and offers many beautiful buildings, especially from the Renaissance period. Also, the Minster of York is second only to the one in Canterbury for importance. The nice thing is, all of the central streets are walking streets and there are very nice shops and boutiques in the historical buildings.
